Ronda Rousey Gets No Respect - "I Mean You, People Will Love Me"

Watching AJ Styles cut a promo at the end of Raw on WrestleMania pay per view last night raised some interesting thoughts about Ronda Rousey in WWE. You’re pretty sure that most wrestling fans are familiar with Vince McMahon's famous mantra – Hey this is television not real professional wrestling. Except this wasn't scripted in any way and certainly didn’t come anywhere close to being one. In fact we don't know if AJ actually meant what he said (he had during the previous week) but as WWE never miss an opportunity to indulge their celebrity superstars it stands to reason that they would gladly allow him to do so. He got his wish on Friday night where Ronda was left alone after her heated exchange with Sasha Banks came to an end without a mention of how “we all know Nia Jax won this match.” Add the new footage of the post-match brawl with Bayley suggesting that none of the performers wanted to acknowledge Ms. Banks and again it looked like she left more questions than answers when it comes to what really happened between the two NXT stars backstage. And you can read Nick Hausman for Sports Illustrated who says Raw has provided us just how we all thought it would : Charlotte gets the treatment because anyone not in line will get messed with. There’s no such thing as bad PR or bad luck. Sure you can make mistakes but clearly there needs to be greater accountability from both parties in order to avoid much ado in the future. After all if you lose and they win you can blow off steam by kicking your body guards in the gut.

But back to business.

At Battleground Sasha Banks and Raw General Manager Kurt Angle traded the mean girl dynamic that Ronda might have enjoyed up north in Minneapolis forever once and for all. Nobody likes bullies and it doesn’t seem appropriate that her public persona promotes some of the things that made her name. Plus Banks could potentially cause problems with numerous girls looking up to her career path. Check out an official “Women’s evolution” video she did on YouTube back in April 2016 with #SheltonBrothers & Nia Jax included. A title run from her and an actual elimination match eventually followed.
