You're so right though, we also hear that nowadays all the time yet some unproven yet repeatedly repeated lie on a regular basis is still circulating: "Oh, he was murdered" <-> "HE WAS NEVER MURDERED"<-> "HE'S STILL ALIVE, WELL LET'S BE TELLING THE TRUTH!"
